Since I was in grade school, I knew I wanted to be an attorney. Some of my earliest memories from back then were watching early 2000’s episodes of the hit TV show COPS when I had a “snow day” from school and my parents couldn’t monitor what I was watching (this was before online learning and WFH were a thing).
My interest in the legal system goes beyond just being fascinated by it- I truly became obsessed with the intricacies of criminal prosecution and how the constitution, over 200 years later, continues to protect the rights of the accused.
Rather than just a criminal defense attorney, I like to think of myself as a civil rights attorney, specializing in protecting the 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 6th amendment constitutional rights of my clients.
Unlike many criminal defense attorneys, I do not hold a disdain for the police or other members of law enforcement. I have had the privilege of meeting many great people who are current or past law enforcement, and I have the utmost respect for the sacrifices they take on a daily basis to protect the public. However, there is a balance between law and order and the presumption of innocence until proven guilty that must be observed and respected.
I believe firmly that by challenging arrests, suppressing evidence, and achieving not guilty verdicts at trial, I can do my part to reduce constitutional violations in my community and hold members of law enforcement to a higher standard.
Some of my best memories in law school were my experiences in trial advocacy and participating in an expungement clinic. Due to my understanding of the courts and the criminal justice system, I look at each matter before me as a case that could go to trial and prepare accordingly.
I provide prospective clients with several options for payment, including flexible payment plans and reasonable flat fee structures. In addition to traditional representation, I offer “unbundled” legal services where I will provide limited representation, such as filing forms and other legal advice where permissible. If you find yourself needing representation on a criminal matter or need assistance with having your past record sealed or expunged, please don’t hesitate to give my office a call, or reach out by text or email and I will personally follow up with you.
When I am not practicing law or meeting with my clients, I enjoy all things outdoors. I have a passion for messing around with my diesel toys- a dually Cummins and a Toro Dingo skid loader. If you ever meet with me on a Monday and it looks like my hands are dry, it is probably from overwashing my hands after something broke and I had to fix it. I like to spend my weekends on the water, whether it be fishing or cruising at a reasonable speed on jet skis. I wouldn’t be a true Kansas Citian if I didn’t mention my love for BBQ, attending Kansas City Chiefs games in the fall, and occasional Royals game in the summer. I don’t do much traveling unless it’s for business; Kansas City has all I need- where else in the world can you be downtown in a courtroom at 4:30 and have mud on the tires out in the sticks by 5:00.
I was born in Kansas City, Missouri and lived for four years in Prairie Village, Kansas. My family then moved to Olathe, Kansas and I attended K-12 school in the Olathe School District.
After graduating from Olathe South High School, I moved to Lawrence, Kansas to attend the University of Kansas, where I was a brother of Theta Chi Fraternity.
After graduating with Bachelors degrees in Political Science and American Studies, I went on to earn my Juris Doctor from The University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law.
I continue reside in and practice law in Kansas City, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I find serving clients in my community to be an honor, and I am passionate about protecting their interests and legal rights.
